NORDIC TRADE MISSION
TO
SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA
2022
In October 2022, NOMEX did a nordic trade mission to Seoul, South Korea, organized by Export Music Sweden. This was the first trade mission to Seoul after the Covid pandemic.
The Nordic delegates visited and connected with companies such as SM Entertainment, Cube Entertainment, Warner Chappell, Hybe (Big Hit), SBS MTV The Show, SM Universe Global Artist Training Center, and 153/Joombas Music Group.
The delegation also received three keynotes from experts in the South Korean market: K-Pop Market by Christina Chung on the Sparwk platform, South Korean Market Overview by Marty Ro from LIAK (Record Label Industry Association of Korea), and Media landscape for Music in South Korea by Yuni Lim, a journalist at the Dong A-Ilbo newspaper.
The trip concluded with a reception for invited Korean industry members at the Norwegian Ambassador Anne Kari Hansen Ovind's residence.
Jesper Thorsson, CEO of Export Music Sweden, told MI:
"The interest in Nordic songwriters remains strong in South Korea, and today the chances are even greater that a collaboration will result in a global hit since K-Pop is a worldwide phenomenon - even outside of Asia. Very interesting company visits, meetings, and keynotes. When organising this trade mission, it's wonderful that South Korea is now easier to operate in. For example, the day before most of us arrived, they removed the previously mandatory PCR test upon landing.
Many thanks to Robin Jenssen, Christina Chung, and Jin Sun Choi at Sparwk and Ekko, who have been very helpful during this consulting visit. And also to Swedish Ambassador Daniel Wolvén, Norwegian Ambassador Anne Kari Hansen Ovind, and their respective embassies with local staff."
